E-mail from the Food Bank

I want to thank Casady staff, students and parents for participating in the seventh annual Students Against Hunger food drive. Your school collected $567.77 and 4,228 pounds of food, which will provide 6,358 meals to hungry Oklahomans in Oklahoma City this winter. Although the Regional Food Bank provides enough food to feed more than 90,000 people each week, there are still thousands going to bed hungry every night. During the holiday season, 40 percent of the Regional Food Bank’s clients have to choose between buying food and paying for heat. One of our partner agencies recently shared a story with us about a family who did not have enough money to put a deposit down to get their electricity turned on. Fortunately, after receiving food from the food pantry, they were able to use the money they would have normally spent at the grocery store in order to get their electricity turned on. Thankfully, nearly 250 schools in central and western Oklahoma participated in this year’s student-driven food drive, collecting enough food and funds to provide more than 460,0000 meals for the hungry across central and western Oklahoma. The students, staff and parents are all to be commended for their dedication to service and compassion for those less fortunate. We truly appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in making this year’s Students Against Hunger Food Drive such a success and we look forward to working with you as we continue ”Fighting Hunger…Feeding Hope.” Gratefully, Angie Gaines Marketing Manager Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (405) 604-7109 Direct Line (619) 347-4057 Cell (405) 688-6447 Fax 3355 S Purdue Oklahoma City, OK 73137 againes@regionalfoodbank.org www.regionalfoodbank.org
